Laurent Carrer, editor-in-chief. Vegetarian since 1975 and vegan since early 2015, this French-American hybrid has worked for more than 25 years in the language business, at one point owning a small translation agency/ language school, but mostly as a freelance translator/writer, and connecting people from different countries. He earned a BA in French and an MS in Psychology, and published two books on the history of European hypnosis. He is also a proponent of positive psychology, which he intends to be a guiding principle for this publication. Over four years ago, he and his wife Rebecca adopted Murphy and Riley, two hellraising angel felines, and he’s happy to report that all human and non-human animals are getting along superbly.
Lukas Jasiūnas, correspondent (Denmark, Lithuania). Lukas comes from the beautiful land of Lithuania, where he spent his childhood on a farm, surrounded by fields and forests. He suspects his passion for nature, animals and life stems from those days. Lukas is currently pursuing a PhD in sustainable chemical engineering in Lithuania. He leads a vegan lifestyle, seeks to awaken compassion for our animal friends in as many people as he possibly can and is eager for us all to share inspiring stories of change and development.
Melissa Maxter, correspondent (Sweden, Poland, Germany). Melissa, of Polish descent and currently living in Berlin, was born and raised in the south of Sweden, where nature was a big part of her childhood. She would often grab her Barbie dolls and bike to a nearby creek, or walk about in the forest singing the latest pop songs to the trees. Vegetarian since 1999, Melissa went vegan shortly after beginning to study environmental science in 2012—she holds a bachelor’s degree in the subject. Her motivation, deeply rooted in the ethical aspects of animal rights, expanded as she learned more about the negative environmental impacts of meat, egg and dairy production. Her aim today is to contribute in any way she can to a compassionate world of loving kindness for everyone.
Oyku Buyukdere, correspondent (Turkey). Passionate about positive psychology and animals, Oyku is vegan and has been an animal rights activist and rescuer for over a decade. With an MA in psychology from Turkey’s Koc’s University, Oyku also completed life coach training with Canada’s Erickson College International. She aims to change the world for good one conversation at a time as a positive psychology coach, and one video at a time through her YouTube channels. Oyku also volunteers for the Animal Rights Federation of Turkey (HAYTAP), whose goal is to make macro-level changes for the animals.
